Adelita Grijalva Wins Arizona’s 7th Congressional District Election
TUCSON, Ariz.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, congratulates Adelita Grijalva for her victory in Tuesday’s special election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
Adelita Grijalva will now fill the seat of her father, Raúl Grijalva, who served in Congress for 23 years and passed away in March. The Center Action Fund endorsed Adelita Grijalva in June.
“We’re proud to stand with Adelita Grijalva as she heads to Washington to carry forward her father’s legacy as a champion of justice, democracy and our environment,” said Kierán Suckling, president of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Now more than ever, we need progressive champions in Congress who aren’t afraid to stand up to Trump and the extreme Republicans endangering our future. Adelita is the champion Arizona deserves.”
As a Pima County supervisor, Adelita Grijalva advocated for her community by protecting environmentally sensitive and culturally significant sites as well as promoting green infrastructure that ensures resiliency in the face of climate change. She also helped steer investments in affordable housing and worked on open space protection in the Sonoran Desert.
The Center Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda.
