Adelita Grijalva Wins Arizona’s 7th Congressional District Primary

TUCSON, Ariz.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, congratulates Adelita Grijalva for her victory in Tuesday’s special primary election in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.

Adelita Grijalva is running to fill the seat of her father, Raúl Grijalva, who served in Congress for 23 years and passed away in March. The Center Action Fund endorsed Adelita Grijalva in June.

“We’re thrilled that Adelita Grijalva is one step closer to becoming a member of Congress and continuing her father’s conservation legacy,” said Kierán Suckling, president of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Throughout her career, Adelita has shown she is a steadfast leader with unshakeable values. We’re excited to support her road to Washington and watch her go head-to-head with this rogue administration and the extreme Republicans wreaking havoc on our environment and democracy.”

As a Pima County supervisor, Adelita Grijalva advocated for her community by protecting environmentally sensitive and culturally significant sites as well as promoting green infrastructure that ensures resiliency in the face of climate change. She also helped steer investments in affordable housing and worked on open space protection in the Sonoran Desert.

Adelita Grijalva will face Republican primary winner Daniel Butierez in the Sept. 23 general election.
