Center Action Fund Endorses Chandra Farley for Georgia Public Service Commission
ATLANTA— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing Chandra Farley in the Democratic primary for district three of the Georgia Public Service Commission.
“Families in Georgia are experiencing the cascading impacts of crushing energy bills and shutoffs, fossil fuel pollution and climate-fueled hurricanes and droughts,” said Jean Su, energy justice political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Georgia’s utilities play a big role in these problems by continuing to burn fossil fuels, raise energy rates and stall the urgent transition to just, equitable and renewable energy. Farley has dedicated her career to fighting utility monopoly interests like Georgia Power on behalf of Georgian families, and she is the people’s champion that the state desperately needs.”
Farley is a longtime energy, environmental and climate justice champion. If elected, Farley pledges to hold Georgia utilities accountable, rein in price hikes and push for the acceleration of renewable and affordable energy. Farley served as energy justice director at the Partnership for Southern Equity and is chair of the Georgia NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Committee.
“I’m so honored to receive an endorsement from the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund,” Farley said. “I’ve spent my career fighting for climate action and energy justice — two things that are central to the Center’s mission. As your next public service commissioner, I will work tirelessly to build a Georgia that is more just and equitable and I’m so proud to have a partner like the Center in that fight.”
Georgia will hold an election for two of five seats for the Georgia Public Commission in November. The district three primary elections will be held on May 24, 2022.
