Center Action Fund Endorses David Segal for Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing David Segal in the Democratic primary in Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District.

“As the climate emergency worsens, David Segal understands the wide range of environmental priorities and policies that are needed for all of us to thrive,” said Stephanie Kurose, northeast political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. He is not only a principled leader on environmental issues, he’s also a creative and effective leader who knows how to forward solutions and protect our planet  even when it means standing up to corporate polluters. We are proud to support his candidacy for Congress.”

David Segal is a former member of the Providence City Council and the Rhode Island House of Representatives. He has spent the decade since leaving office building Democratic infrastructure, helping candidates, and organizing around key issues in Rhode Island — while also working to forward the interests of everyday people as an advocate for federal policy changes.

Segal has signed the Green New Deal pledge, committing to reject any large donations from fossil fuel PACs, executives or lobbyists. Signers of the pledge also commit to co-sponsoring 10 pieces of Green New Deal-related legislation within six months of taking office.

“I’m proud to have the support of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. Protecting and improving the environment has long been a priority of mine,” Segal said. “From promoting renewable energy while a member of the Providence City Council, to spearheading passage of three expansions of our laws that enable development of wind and solar energy when I was a state representative, I’ve built coalitions to overcome special interest and corporate opposition and make sure we have policies in place to safeguard our environment and combat climate change. That is what I’ll continue to do in Congress.”

The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable. This news release is from the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, not the Center for Biological Diversity.
