Center Action Fund Endorses Judie Mancuso for California’s 72nd State Assembly District
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing Judie Mancuso for California’s 72nd State Assembly District.
“Judie Mancuso is an outspoken champion for animals and the environment and will work to advance a rapid and just transition away from fossil fuels,” said Karuna Jaggar, California political director for the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “An accomplished activist who has sponsored more than 50 bills, Mancuso will advance progressive legislation to protect the environment, promote animal welfare, combat pollution and fight climate change.”
“I am proud to be endorsed by the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund,” said Mancuso. “I have been a longtime champion for our environment and know we must take bold action to protect our air and our coastline. California has taken great strides to a healthy environment for our families and our wildlife. That progress is under attack, especially here in Orange County, where special interests want to roll back our progress and put profits first. As a member of the California Assembly, I’ll proudly stand up to corporate polluters and protect our environment.”
Mancuso is the only Democrat running for the new 72nd district that includes Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Lake Forest. In October 2021 a devastating oil spill off the Orange County coast in the 72nd district released at least 144,000 gallons of crude oil into coastal waters, killing fish and birds and threatening sensitive local wetlands. The spill harmed reddish egrets, which are uncommon on the West Coast, as well as gulls, willets, elegant terns and other wildlife. Offshore oil production off the Southern California coast is a threat to public health, wildlife and a livable climate.
The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable. This news release is from the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, not the Center for Biological Diversity.
