Center Action Fund Endorses Shervin Aazami for California’s 32nd Congressional District
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing Shervin Aazami for California’s 32nd Congressional District, which represents the San Fernando Valley and Malibu, as well as parts of L.A.’s Westside.
“Aazami is committed to pursuing a fossil fuel-free future and fighting environmental injustice,” said Karuna Jaggar, California political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “We need committed leaders who will take decisive action to address the growing climate emergency. We know that with Aazami at the helm, he will fight every day for a safe and healthy planet for both people and wildlife.”
“The climate crisis is the existential threat of our time, and one our district painfully knows all too well,” said Aazami. “The Aliso Canyon disaster — the largest methane blowout in U.S. history — happened here in the San Fernando Valley. In order to prevent climate catastrophe, we must elect corporate-free representatives that will stand up to fossil fuel greed and champion the necessary legislative solutions. That means decarbonizing our economy and transitioning to 100% renewable energy according to the timelines set by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. As a new father, I can’t think of a more urgent issue than ensuring we have a livable planet for the next seven generations, and I am proud and humbled to have the endorsement of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund.”
Aazami is challenging Rep. Brad Sherman, a career politician and moderate Democrat who is failing to take bold steps to address the urgent environmental crises in the United States and globally. Sherman has not endorsed the Keep It in the Ground Act of 2021 or legislation that declares the climate crisis to be a national emergency.
The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable.
