Center Action Fund Endorses Vincent Fort for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District

ATLANTA— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, announced today that it is endorsing former state Sen. Vincent Fort in the Democratic primary in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District.

“Vincent Fort is truly a champion that Georgians can count on to address the most pressing environmental issues, including fighting environmental injustices in their communities and addressing the climate crisis nationwide,” said J.W. Glass, southeastern political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Vincent is a bold, community-oriented leader with a proven track record of progressive politics, and we’re honored to endorse him.”

“I am humbled and honored to receive the Center’s endorsement,” Fort said. “My entire life’s work has been about fighting for and protecting the most marginalized in our communities so that everyone can live, work, and play in a healthy environment. I will continue this fight in Congress and work to ensure a Green New Deal passes.”

Fort is challenging Rep. David Scott, a moderate Democrat who has failed to use his position as chairman of the House Agriculture Committee to put forward bold solutions to address environmental issues both in Georgia and across the nation. He has failed to address industrial agriculture’s contributions to the climate crisis and environmental injustice.

Scott has not supported key legislation, including the Keep It in the Ground Act, which bans new fossil fuel production on federal lands, the Protect America’s Children from Toxic Pesticides Act, and both the bill and resolution on the Green New Deal.

Meanwhile, Fort has signed the Green New Deal pledge and committed to rejecting any large donations from fossil fuel PACs, executives or lobbyists.

The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable.
