“California’s elected officials must lead the state and the world in accelerating a complete and just phase out of fossil fuels,” said Karuna Jaggar, California political director for the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “We have no time to lose, which is why we’re working to elect the strongest environmental justice and climate champions. They’ve got to use all the tools at their disposal to protect our communities, our wildlife and our future.”
“We need political leaders who understand that a just transition from a fossil-fuel economy requires reining in toxic polluters,” said Jaggar. “California is one of the nation’s top oil- producing states, churning out some of the dirtiest, most climate-damaging oil in the world. The result is that Californians, particularly low-income communities and Black, Indigenous and other communities of color, are doubly harmed by toxic fossil fuel production and climate chaos.”
The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable.
