Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund Endorses Ed Markey for Senate

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, today announced that it is endorsing Ed Markey for U.S. Senate in the Democratic primary in Massachusetts.

“Ed Markey is one of the great environmental champions in the Senate and a bold leader in confronting the climate crisis. We are thrilled to endorse him,” said Brett Hartl, chief political strategist at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Ed has fought for our public lands, endangered species, clean water and clean air his entire career, and has repeatedly come through for the environment.”

In 2019, along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Markey sponsored resolutions to enact a Green New Deal to address and solve the existential threat posed by the climate crisis. Markey was the coauthor of the 2009 Waxman-Markey legislation — the American Clean Energy and Security Act — the first substantial congressional effort to address climate change.

Senator Markey provided the following quote:

“As Donald Trump guts the rules that cut dangerous pollution and protect endangered species, I am proud to have the support of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, a champion in the fight to protect our planet,” said Senator Edward J. Markey. “The climate crisis is an extinction crisis – for ecosystems, for wildlife, and for future generations — and it will only be through bold action and solutions that we combat the climate crisis on the scale that matches the problem. I look forward to continuing to work with the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund to protect our most vulnerable species and our very future.”

The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable.
