Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund Endorses Joan Hartmann for Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity, today announced that it is endorsing incumbent Joan Hartmann for Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.

“Joan Hartmann is an environmental champion on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors and she’ll take bold actions that fight the climate crisis locally,” said Stephanie Prufer, field campaigner with the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “Santa Barbara County is ground zero for several dirty oil and gas projects, including Exxon’s plans to restart three offshore drilling platforms. That’s taking us exactly in the wrong direction. Joan Hartmann will stand up to protect our oceans, communities and wildlife.”

Hartmann has been serving on the county’s board of supervisors since 2016. Since then she has sponsored and supported resolutions opposing federal oil and gas projects, including President Trump’s proposed expansion of offshore drilling and BLM’s plan to open public lands to oil and gas leases on 1.2 million acres across California. Hartmann also sponsored the first countywide resolution in support of the Green New Deal. In addition, she championed efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by joining a community choice energy program that promotes renewable energy and reinvests in local communities.

“I am honored to have the support of the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, true advocates for our planet,” Hartmann said. “The climate crisis is real, and we see it here in Santa Barbara County with devastating fires, debris flows and bluff collapse. We are making a difference with programs to make our region’s energy 100% fossil-free by next year and accelerate new opportunities for commercial wind and solar. I look forward to continuing to address these important issues.”

The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for legislation and legislators that will advance a progressive environmental agenda. The Action Fund is the 501(c)(4) affiliate of the Center for Biological Diversity, but these organizations’ names are not interchangeable.
